“The problem is never the problem. It is only a symptom of something much deeper.”
- Virginia Satir
Smoking, alcohol consumption, obsessive behavioural patterns, food management, nail biting, toxic personal relationships.
Breaking a cycle of undesirable habitual behaviour is not exclusively determined by will. Many clients will mistakenly assume that they have fallen back into old habits due to a lack of self-discipline.
With the greatest will in the world, a habit that was formed on the back of self-protection will never be broken until the underlying ingredients are understood and addressed in a different format. It is not always necessary to travel down all the pathways which lead you to these challenging habits, a few effective strategies are usually sufficient to reach your goals.
However, addressing secondary gains through hypnosis and other forms of talking therapy are key in acknowledging what has led you to form these habits.
Many clients will come to hypnotherpay to break the cycle of a habit - citing the main reason as external pressure from someone else - perhaps a partner or a parent. Hypnotherapy will only be an effective tool in the cessation of a habit when you yourself have a deep desire to quit, and you are open to the idea of exploring what that may mean moving forward in your life.
Once that is personally acknowledged within you, then we can work together. Every therapy session is different for each person. This means that at the start of each meeting, I will use Solution Focused therapy to assess how effective the past meeting has been and integrate new therapies forward into our sessions from there to support your growth.
